The Foundation for Portland Public Schools has awarded $66,880 in 35 Summer Planning grants to support PPS educators. This is our biggest award ever, with an increase of $16,000 over last year.
FPPS’ Summer Planning Grant program offers funds for PPS staff to engage in curriculum planning, school team collaboration, or other summer work intended to advance new approaches to student learning or otherwise prepare for the school year.
This summer’s projects include developing a new Latin American History course at Deering High School, designing a new curriculum focused on local phenomena (like coastal ecosystems, island geography, and weather patterns) on Peaks Island, and expanding outdoor learning to support outdoor professions in Maine.
